In this work, I continue the tradition of Suprematist minimalism while simultaneously giving it an incredibly relevant and global context. Formally, the piece remains laconic, in the spirit of Kazimir Malevich's "pure feeling," yet its ideological saturation goes beyond the usual art analysis, raising questions about international political and social processes.
The dominant blue-yellow sphere on a black background immediately evokes associations with the Ukrainian national flag - a symbol of hope, freedom, and heroic resistance. This work is simultaneously a deeply personal statement and a socially significant message, as I consciously combine national colors with the absoluteness of black space, emphasizing Ukraine's global role in the modern world. The black square serves as a "point of reference" - like cosmic space, emphasizing that it is in Ukraine where the interests of the key forces of our time intersect. The bright blue-yellow sphere signals how Ukraine's historical challenges and struggle significantly influence the world order and at the same time reveal the imperfection of international institutions, including the UN.
An important component of this work is also a reference to Kazimir Malevich's Ukrainian roots, who repeatedly mentioned the influence of Ukrainian folk art on his own artistic worldview. Born in Kyiv and connected with the cultural life of Kyiv and Kharkiv, Malevich left a noticeable mark on the art of the 20th century, just as his Suprematist ideas now inspire Ukrainian art.
Thus, the blue-yellow on black echoes this deep connection between the artist's creativity and the land where he formed his unique style.
Therefore, "Blue-Yellow Sphere on a Black Square" is a symbol of the national strength, courage of the Ukrainian people and global resonance, marking a new stage in the development of contemporary art and affirming the role of Ukrainian culture in the global art community.
